American Beauty School opened its doors more than 50 years ago, and was built on a foundation of diversity, success, and innovation. Through decades of work, ABS has been cultivating our curriculum and values through exploration and creativity. Hybrid Learning:
More Flexibility, Same Great Education
Hybrid Education
Students enrolled in our Cosmetology Hybrid Program will receive a hybrid learning format during their theory portion — alternating one week on-site with one-week virtual learning.
This means students receive the same great education ABS has always provided – but with the benefit of less commuting to campus.
Once all theory is completed utilizing hybrid learning, students transition to Senior Clinic and are fully on-site for the remainder of the program.

Our large student salon allows students to work with real clients, interact with a diverse Bronx community which allows our students to gain valuable skills/exposure to many hair types, all while letting their creativity soar.

- Applicants must be at least 17 years of age. (High school seniors require parental consent.)
- If you don’t have a diploma or GED, New York State offers a proficiency test that you can use as an alternative. A pass is required on this exam.
- If you are interested in using Federal Financial Aid, a high school diploma or GED is required.
- A copy of your birth certificate or other acceptable proof of age is required.
- If you are a foreign-born applicant, an affidavit must be submitted indicating your age and any other missing information.
- Foreign students wishing to study in the US will also need to apply for a VISA; see the foreign student application for more information.
