With the new year approaching as quickly as ever, we can imagine thoughts of resolutions have been running through your head. But listen up, we’ve got some news for you, statistics show that only 8% of those nifty New Year’s resolutions are going to be fulfilled. So let’s skip the stereotypical gym goals and set some resolutions that are truly meaningful. We understand the desire to feel beautiful, but we want you to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Instead of choosing cliche resolutions to make you simply pretty, choose some resolutions that will make you pretty kind, pretty smart, pretty strong and pretty on the inside!

Let go of the past

We know that the past is something that has a habit of sticking around and weighing heavy on our shoulders. This year, it’s time to wave goodbye to all of those thoughts of the past that dance around your mind. Welcome 2017 with open arms and an open mind free of things that you can’t change!

Give back

Being kind never goes out of style and making others feel good about themselves is a great way to feel good about yourself! You can become a mentor or lend a helping hand to the homeless by checking out New York Cares’ volunteer page. Help out a local girl scout and help her build courage, confidence, and character. Check out the different volunteer options here.

Don’t sweat the small stuff

We know that spilling your latte was not the ideal way to start your morning and getting stuck in traffic was just the cherry on top but, hey, it could be worse! Train yourself to remember that even in the most trying times. Once you learn to let the little things go, your life will be a breeze!

Find the beauty in all things

You are surrounded by beauty every day at any given moment. So this year, make it a point to stop and smell the roses. When you allow yourself to be open to your surroundings, you will be presently surprised with the things you will discover.

Expand your mind

Nelson Mandela said that, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” In 2017, make a promise to yourself to expand your knowledge and skills. Do you have a niche for beauty and think that it’s a skill that you’d like to perfect? Check out our Cosmetology and Esthetics pages to learn about getting an education in beauty.
